Simple, flexible product lifecycle management software for growing companies™

PDXpert PLM software system requirements

The PDXpert product lifecycle management system consists of three major components:

  • one or more clients that execute the application business rules and provide the user experience;
  • a file manager that services requests for database connection information and file attachments, and performs product data indexing and maintenance functions; and
  • a SQL database server that manages product information.

In a single-user installation, all of these components can be installed on one computer. Most installations, however, will have one computer act as database and file management server, and other computers act as clients. Servers do not have to be dedicated exclusively to PDXpert PLM software, although sharing resources with other applications and functions may affect system performance.

The PDXpert installer automatically detects your Windows 32-bit or 64-bit operating system and installs the appropriate executable. PDXpert can be run in a mixed network of 32-/64-bit computers.

Notes

We rely upon Microsoft and other suppliers' technologies that are constantly evolving. Always apply the latest available Windows, .NET and SQL Server service packs and updates. All minimum requirements and supported configurations are subject to change.

1. All installations require Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher. If you have the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed, the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended is also required. PDXpert cannot be installed on Windows 2000, Windows NT or 16-bit Windows (95/98/98SE/ME).

2. The PDXpert application server installation file automatically detects your 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating system and available installation service, and downloads and installs an appropriate version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, or 2008, Express Edition. All other SQL Server editions require a separate custom pre-installation of the database. The PDXpert server requires exclusive access to the installed database instance. Refer to the PDXpert PLM Software Installation Guide for more detailed information. PDXpert cannot be used with SQL Server 2000.

3. Per Microsoft guidelines. PDXpert increases efficiency by pooling database connections, so this number is not an absolute upper limit. The users supported by a specific SQL Edition will depend on factors such as concurrent use, client activities, network bandwidth and utilization, product data complexity, hardware configurations, and server load. Contact us for specific recommendations.

4. Microsoft has retired Mainstream Support for (a) Windows XP after April 2010 and (b) Windows Server 2003 after July 2010. Mainstream Support retirement limits the support that we can provide, and you should upgrade to Microsoft's supported operating systems as soon as possible.
