How PDXpert fits together on your network
This guide explains requirements and procedures for the current PDXpert release: application server, SQL Server data store, file library, and Windows clients. Contact us if you need to install an older PDXpert release.
One installer can provision SQL Server (Express/LocalDB), the application server, and an initial client on the target machine.
Use the generated client setup package to roll out PDXpert to additional PCs on your LAN or extended network.
Single-user: all roles on one PC. Most teams: one Windows server for data + files, workstations as clients.
The PDXpert PLM system consists of these components:
PDXpert System setup
- Downloads and installs a free edition of Microsoft SQL Server that will hold your product data.
- Installs the PDXpert Application Server, which manages database and library configuration and supplies connection details to clients.
- Installs a PDXpert client that provides the user experience and enforces application business rules.
- Creates a PDXpert Client setup file you can use to extend the system to more machines.
Optional: PDXpert Client setup
The optional PDXpert Client setup file installs PDXpert on additional workstations on your LAN or extended network.
Installers and architecture
Installers detect 32-bit vs 64-bit Windows and install the matching PDXpert build. For single-user use, the system installation alone is enough. In most deployments, one computer acts as the database and file server while others run clients.
You can run the client on the server machine in a multi-user setup, but the server should be configured well above minimum requirements so local and remote users both get responsive performance.
