Unit of Measure (within group)
Collection Explorer ◢General group ◢Units of Measure group ◢Units collection
Defines measurement units for counting parts, time durations, physical properties, and other purposes.
System-wide
- Name
- This is the complete name for the unit of measure. Unlike most otherName attributes, this value is limited to 4 characters, such as each, mm, kg and ohms.
- While units of measure with Unicode characters (like cm² and kΩ) might look better, they're often hard to use. For example, searches are more difficult if some keyboards don't show the character, and older manufacturing applications may not know how to import or display these characters.
- Description
- This gives the unit of measure more fully.
- UoM category
- Use this dropdown list to select the appropriate category for the unit of measure. See the Units of Measure (category) collection help topic.
- Ensure that the correct category is selected. You cannot change this value after the new member is saved.
- Measurement locale
- You can specify whether a unit of measure is related to one of the principal regional measurement systems, or is globally applied.
- Default units per this unit
Thisconversion constantis the number of default member units required to make this unit. That is, there are [conversion constant] x [default members] in [this member]. The default member conversion constant is, by definition, equal to 1.0.
Enter how many units of the default member you need to equal this member.
There are 100 centimeters in one meter. In the UoM Category Lengthcollection, if the default category member is set as:
- centimeter (conversion constant = 1), then themeter member's conversion constant is 100.
- meter (conversion constant = 1), then thecentimeter member's conversion constant is 0.01.
- Active: users can select
Default member of collection
Permanent member of collection - For information, see the Managing collections: Common attributes help topic.
Keep poorly characterized unit types ("carton", "as needed", etc.) to a minimum, since they are not convertible to other compatible units on part lists.
